To give happiness is to deserve happiness.

- Today's Fortune

Joe worked with his father “Izzy” at the Maritime Institute of Technology and Graduate Studies (MITAGS) where they held the foodservice contract. While both Joe & Izzy had always been involved in the industry in various capacities, it was during this time that they truly learned to work together and respect each other as professionals.

When the contract ended, Izzy decided to retire (at the young age of 70) after running the institute for 25 years. But the story doesn’t end there. Joe & Izzy came upon Joe’s Place (it was already named that) and they decided to buy it. Dad came out of retirement, mom became the Queen Mother of the register and a smiling face to the customers… and the new Joe’s Place was born.

Joe met his future wife and business partner shortly after opening. They married 2 ½ years later. Some 13 years later they are still going strong with 3 grown children, 4 wonderful parents, 3 brothers, 1 sister and 2 dogs. Life is good!

Joe is a graduate of the CIA. (that’s Culinary Institute of America)

Tonya is actually a vegetarian but probably makes the best sandwich at Joe’s.

Joe’s mom and dad -Izzy and Shirley helped Joe open Joe’s Place in 1995. You may have had your sandwich made by Dad!! Or perhaps mom made your day with a kind word.

Tonya sings-and not just in the shower. You may have seen her in a show or perhaps heard her sing at a friends wedding. Hopefully she didn’t shatter a glass!

Joe’s Place was originally opened as “The Garden Café” in 1983- Then sold to ANOTHER man named Joe before being sold to the current Joe.

Joe’s place was a hideous mint green and peach color just 2 ½ years ago. We did a “redo” with mostly 2nd hand decorations and furniture. Not bad.

Although a culinary graduate, Joe only cooks eggs and frozen pizza at home when it’s his turn to cook.

Joe and Tonya have 3 children and 2 dogs between them-all housebroken. Well… just about.

Joe can play the guitar-quite well actually. Go figure.

Tonya will eat her weight in chocolate and French fries. Any time, Any day.

Joe is an amazing Ice carver. Don’t know why this matters but it is pretty cool - (get it-cool?)

Tonya can remember you and your favorite sandwich pretty much every day all of the time. Joe will almost never remember either one. His name is on the door---hmmm….

Joe’s Place has been in the Waterview building longer than any other tenant. Free rent? Just kidding Brendan.

Joe and Tonya’s dog’s are named Dunkin Donut & Raspberry. These people are strange.

Joe and Tonya met briefly in 1996 while Tonya worked P/T- taking a break from her “real job” as a wedding consultant from the now defunct Royal Formal & Bridal. They never gave each other a 2nd look.

Met again in 1998-gave each other a 2nd look. The rest is DELI HISTORY!
